Ugandan Parliament rejects Government’s Shs 61b Budget request to procure CCTV Cameras and Online registration System.

Kampala, March 22nd, 2018; Parliamentary Committee on Budget has rejected Government’s  supplementary budget request of Shs61b (approximately $219,600) meant to procure CCTV cameras and an online registration system for the Uganda Registration Services Bureau. Shs60b is to carter for the CCTV cameras while Shs1b will be used for the online system.

The Committee chaired by Hon. Amos Lugoloobi rejected the request on grounds that government had to first obtain clearance from the Committee on National Economy on whether the domestic loan request will be approved.

The Supplementary budget request was today tendered into parliament by Finance State Minister David Bahati. According to the Minister, the funds are to be obtained through domestic borrowing, a practice where government gets funds from local commercial banks.

This follows recent repeated promises by President Yoweri Museveni to procure CCTV cameras to fight crime in a wake of run away criminality in the capital, Kampala.
