Kampala, 13th/11/2015; Reports coming in from presidential rallies allege that the Internet is being censored and Internet enabled mobile devices do not work at these rallies.
A victim of censored Internet told the Unwanted Witness that security vans that were given out to candidates by the Independent Uganda Electoral Commission are allegedly carrying the equipment. The presidential campaigns kicked off on 09th/11/2015 and Ugandans are expected to polls on 18th/02/2016.
“I have experienced these failures to share and engage my followers on social media whenever I am at a rally and standing somehow close to a security vans. I have shared the same concern with other people who also attend these rallies and they are facing a similar challenge” A victim claimed.
The victims further alleged that Internet connection gets back to normal few minutes after leaving the scene where the rally has been held.
When the Unwanted Witness contacted different presidential camps, the spokes person for Hon. Amama Mbabazi Josephine Mayanja Nkangi says its possible that the Internet is being censored at rallies.
The Unwanted Witness is investigating these claims and we shall share our findings within a shortest period.
